About

Farbota (they/them) is a writer, actor, and producer who believes in storytelling as a means to broaden empathy. Their favorite stories balance humor, emotional truth, and the absurdity of human nature.

After studying acting at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where they came to understand storytelling as an instrumental piece of shaping our culture, Farbota moved to Chicago in 2019 to focus on a career in film. Since then, they have been involved in a number of local films as a writer, dancer, actor, and producer. In 2023, they co-founded Handkerchief Films, which continues to establish itself as a vibrant piece of the Chicago film community.

Their writing has appeared in festivals across the world, including the St. Louis Int’l Film Festival, Tokyo Int’l Short Film Festival, Catalyst Int’l Film Festival, Miami OUTshine, and Chicago’s Peacebook,

In 2025, their feature film Damage Ctrl was selected for the Chicago International Film Festival’s CIX:Lab — a year-long development program which will help launch the project towards production.

While not working, Farbota can be found climbing rocks, walking their dog, and hosting costume parties for their friends.
